Wednesday Wickedness: Mark Twain

1. A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.
Do you let yourself off the hook easily?  Sometimes, I guess.

2. A man is never more truthful than when he acknowledges himself a liar.
Do you think everyone lies?  Of course.  I don’t believe there is not a single human being in this world that doesn’t or have not lied in their entire life.

3. A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.
What was the last thing that you had to learn the hard way?  Learning to forgive

4. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.
What types of things do you read?  Inspirational books

5. A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds.
Have you ever thought about something that did not exist and later it was invented?  Nothing I can think of.

6. Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.
How well do you think that you observe people?  Very well.  I trust my instincts and they’re usually right.

7. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.
Have you ever used humor to diffuse a difficult situation?  Yes.  I did it just to ease and lift the tension.

8. Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
How important is your age to you? Do you ever lie about it or refuse to reveal it?  Age is just a number and I don’t have a problem telling my age to other people.

9. All you need is ignorance and confidence and the success is sure.
How important do you think confidence is? Are you confident?  Confidence is important because it helps you become an achiever.  Yes, definitely.

10. Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.
Do you do everything you should to be healthy?  Yes, I do try my best to be healthy by exercising and avoiding unhealthy foods.  I also try my best to not be just physically healthy but also mentally and spiritually healthy.

Leaving for Christmas

My family and I will be spending Christmas at my husband’s hometown and we’ll be leaving tomorrow.  Although, I’m always happy and looking forward to the Christmas season, this is the part that saddens me: that I have to leave my Dad all alone at home.  Well, he goes to his sister’s home to celebrate Christmas with them so he’s not entirely alone during Christmas plus my sister and her hubby’s going to visit him.  He can go with us to celebrate Christmas with my in-laws but the thing is, he doesn’t like traveling for long hours.  It takes around 7-9 hours travel time going to my husband’s province and it’s really a killer.  If I had an option, I wouldn’t want to spend Christmas away from home, but I have to think of others as well.  Aside from summer break, Christmas is the only time that my in-laws would see my children (their ‘apos’), so we really have to go there and at least make their Christmas happy.

Well, at least it’s only for a few days and we’ll be here together to welcome the New Year. J

My favorite Christmas ornament

Christmas Day is almost near.  I always look forward to Christmas time, because one of my favorite things to do every time the season draws near is decorating our Christmas tree.  Although I’m really not artistic when it comes to decorating, I really try my best to make our tree very Chirstmasy for my kids.  They just love it when I’ve finished decorating our tree and would immediately have their picture taken with it.

One of the reasons why I always look forward to decorating our tree is because I get to see my favorite Christmas ornament, which I place at the center of our tree.

Aside from it being very cute (resembling a home filled with presents under the tree with Santa Claus visiting), this ornament reminds me of my sister and my mom.  It was sent to us by my mom and when my sister used to live with us, we would both help decorate the tree with this ornament also being at the center because it's both our favorite.

We haven’t had the chance to celebrate Christmas together for a long time, but I do hope and pray that God will one day grant my prayer that we would all be together to celebrate Christmas.

The oldest University in Asia

I had the chance to visit yesterday the oldest University in Asia that still exists, University of Sto. Tomas.  This is where my daughter had her photo shoot yesterday morning so my family and I went there.  I wasn’t able to roam around the campus because I had to be with my daughter, but I was able to take a couple of pictures on some of the sights near the photo shoot location and one of the school buildings there.  Have a look:

Friday Fill-Ins: my second entry

This is my second time to join this very interesting meme.  And here are my answers to this week’s fill-ins:

1. What in the world would I do without my kids?  They’re very dear to me.

2. Our pet cats and dog are well fed.

3. Go the extra mile and help someone in need.

4. God sent His only begotten Son to save us.

I just love yogurt!

If there’s one dessert that I would love to eat over and over again, that would be my all-time favorite: yogurt!  I’ve had two straight days of treating myself to this tasty treat.  I bought the yogurt with jelly for me and my family the other day when we went to grocery and it was really good!  Then yesterday, when my eldest daughter and I went to the mall to have her ID picture taken, we bought a couple of yogurt with blueberries and candy sprinkles.  Yum!

Aside from it being so delicious, it’s also a healthy treat.  Yogurt is an excellent source of protein, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B 12. It contains more calcium and protein than milk because of the added cultures in the yogurt, so it is good for people who are at risk of osteoporosis, or at least if you want to prevent it, to eat at least one serving of yogurt per day.  It contains a good amount of phosphorus and 88% water, so it helps improve our natural defense.  It also helps relief women from vaginal infections, helps boost our immune system and aids in the proper digestion of food and prevent stomach infections, because they help multiply the right kind of bacteria in our gut.

So instead of eating other sweet desserts like ice cream or drinking smoothies like milkshake, you might want try yogurt instead.  It’s so yummy, and it’s good for you. J

The sights and sounds of Christmas

Since Christmas is already next week, everywhere you go is just filled with all things about Christmas: busy shoppers, Christmas lights adorning every house and establishment, Christmas carolers, and midnight mass goers.

I especially enjoy the scene at night because of all the lights and Christmas decorations that adorn every home.  And there are also a lot of kids in our village that have already started singing their Christmas carols at every home.  We always have a few coins ready to give to these kids in exchange for their Christmas songs.

I just love the happy and joyful spirit that is seen everywhere at this time of the year. J

Thursday Thunks: Philosophy 101

1. First, an easy one. In 25 words or less, what's your philosophy on life?  Mark 12:30 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

2. Which country is your spiritual home? Why?  It would just be here in the PhilippinesI didn’t have to go anywhere to help me strengthen my faith and love for the Lord.

3. Tell us something about the oldest living member of your family. We mean as opposed to the oldest dead one.  The oldest living member of my family would be my Dad.  He’s a very patient and giving person.  He loves my children dearly.

4. Tell us something about the youngest member of your family. My handsome little boy, now 3, is the life of the family.  He’d crack us up with his funny antics and hearty laugh.
J

5. Now we’ll do random. Have you ever had a negative experience at a gym (with other patrons, equipment, trainer) or with the gym themselves?  I never went to a gym. Do bad things happen there?  Thank God I never needed to go to one (lol!).

6. If you could go back and change one friendship in your past, who would it have been, and why?  I never thought of changing anything in my past, so I think I’m okay with the friends I made and have.

7. If you could wish a wish and it be guaranteed to come true (and not to get more wishes), what would it be, and why?  To be with my family, especially my kids, all the time and just take care of them until even the time they have a family and kids of their own and I’d be the one to take care of my grandchildren.
J

8. What were you doing 1 year ago?  The very same thing I’m still doing now – being a full-time mom and homemaker, which I’m really very happy about.
J

9. Time to belly up to the bar. What drink can I getcha?  I’m sorry I no longer drink alcoholic beverages.  Iced tea or juice would probably be nice.
J

10. What's the furthest you've traveled to visit (or vacation with, etc.) a friend? Just at the mall watching movies.
J

Massage gadgets

Being a busy family man, my husband is constantly in need of massage.  Driving to and from work everyday gives him backaches and all kinds of aches you can think of.  Not to mention the stress he goes through at work everyday with all the projects he’s handling.  He would always request my kids to give him a massage before sleeping.

He initially bought a wooden massage roller, and then yesterday after having our dinner at the mall, he bought two more wooden massage gadgets.  I don’t know what exactly it’s called but one of the massagers he bought was my favorite – it’s the one that you can use to massage the soles of your feet.  I’m using that one right now – even though I’m sitting and typing away, I get to give my feet a massage.  It’s a bit ticklish at first but you’ll get used to it.  Our feet are the most overused part of our body since it carries the weight of our entire body so it’s really important to care for our feet with a good massage.

Having these helpful massage gadgets makes giving a massage even more convenient and would surely help my husband, and anybody in the family needing a massage, feel better. :)

We Want That LCD TV!

All of my hubby’s officemates (and of course, my husband as well) are very much excited for the LCD TV that their boss is raffling off at their Christmas party.

My son and I went with hubby to their office yesterday and when we arrived, we saw some of the appliances, including the LG LCD TV, that they'll be raffling off. There had been a lot of “claims” already on the TV because we saw a lot of signature names written on top of the box, which I thought was really funny. Everybody wants a brand new television set for Christmas, including us. I encouraged my husband to pray for it and picture together that LCD TV already in our living room. What a lovely sight! A brand new, flat screen TV would add even more life to our movie viewing (because we’re a family of movie enthusiasts), so we’re praying to get that TV for free. :)

Shopping for clothes

My kids and I are looking forward to finally shopping for Christmas clothes this weekend.  Whether we're going to the mall or to a budget-friendlier place, we're still undecided (well, it's all up to my hubby to decide).  My daughters have been wanting to buy new clothes because some of their clothes are already small.

I am not really into buying new clothes, because I don't really need it, but since hubby mentioned of attending their High School class reunion after Christmas, I'm thinking of also buying for myself a pair of new pants, a couple of trendy tops that are in style nowadays, and probably a couple of vests to match because a jacket would just be too heavy to wear. And of course, new shoes. :)  Hubby would also be buying new clothes, too, for work and for their class reunion.

My list is all set - I just hope we'd be able to buy everything we need. :)

Wednesday Wickedness: Jennifer Aniston

It's my second time participating in this Wednesday meme, and it's another set of interesting questions inspired by one of my favorite actress, Jennifer Aniston.

1. “A relationship isn't going to make me survive. It's the cherry on top.”
What part of your life do you consider “the cherry on the top”?
Being a mom to 3 beautiful, sweet kids J

2. “I almost resent the whole fashion thing. Good God- never wearing the same thing twice and all of those things. It's a pain in the ass.”
How much does fashion impact your life?
I’m not really fashion conscious.  As long as I look neat and presentable with what I’m wearing, that’s fine by me.

3. “I've gone for each type: the rough guy; the nerdy, sweet, lovable guy; and the slick guy. I don't really have a type. Men in general are a good thing.”
What’s your type?
I’m attracted to good-looking, hunky guys (well, who wouldn’t be?), but if we’re talking about real-life partner, I’d go for the God-fearing type, who would really be a good family man.

4. “Once you figure out who you are and what you love about yourself, I think it all kinda falls into place.”
Do you still learn new things about yourself?
Definitely.

5. “The greater your capacity to love, the greater your capacity to feel the pain.”
Have you ever had your heart broken? If yes, how did you get over it?

Oh yes. Just by crying and praying about it a lot.

6. “There are no regrets in life, just lessons.”
What is the most recent “life lesson” that you have figured out?
I can change my life for the better just by shifting my thoughts to positive thinking.

7. “Really try to follow what it is that you want to do and what your heart is telling you to do.”
Have you ever went against what your heart told you to do?
Yes, it gets me into trouble almost all the time.

8. “The ultimate is finding a place where you have no inhibitions, nothing to hide, where you can learn with one another.”
Do you have any inhibitions when you are in love with someone?
No, none at all.

9. “Life can be dramatic and funny all in the same day!”
What is something that happened recently in your life that you found extremely funny?
I was still standing at church when everybody was already sitting.  I was still a little bit sleepy and I closed my eyes, that’s why I didn’t hear that it’s already okay to sit down.  Good thing my hubby gave me a light nudge, so I immediately sat down. Embarrassing!

10. “The first time I kissed Brad my knees went weak - I literally lost my breath!”
Have you ever kissed someone and your knees went weak?
Probably my first kiss (lol!)

My nature shots

I am such a lover of nature!  Whenever we travel up North to my hubby's province, I always enjoy seeing sights of green fields and mountains.  They take away the agony of a 7-hour (and sometimes longer) drive to be with his family.  Yesterday at my daughter's field trip, I wanted to sleep while traveling to our destination because I woke up very early preparing the things we need, but I enjoyed the sights of the countryside.  The sight of seeing green everywhere was just refreshing so I just busied myself with taking pictures of the beautiful sights along the way.  Here are some of them: have a look!

My very favorite shot was the picture I took above at the Aeta's Trail park while we were sitting under the flourishing trees waiting for the Aeta natives do a dance performance.

I really should buy me a new professional camera.  I also love taking pictures of just about anything.  My next blog would probably be a photo blog - that would be fun! :)

Back to the oatmeal diet

One of the things I did before when I was trying to loose weight a couple of years ago was to eat oatmeal.  Everyday for more than a month, my breakfast would just be oatmeal, sometimes with fruits such as banana and orange just to add flavor and life to it.  Along with exercise and eating less rice, it really helped me shed off those excess pounds I have.  And now, I think I have to go back to having oatmeals only again for breakfast.  And discipline myself in eating, too (lol!).  Exercising daily is no good if you eat too much, so I have to do something about my diet, too.

I also had high levels of the bad cholesterol (VLDL) and eating oatmeal helped get it back in the normal range.  Because oatmeal has soluble fiber it does just that: reduce the LDL cholesterol in our body.

I already got used to eating rice for breakfast, but I have to get used to eating oatmeal again every morning.  After all, it would be for my benefit.

Thursday Thunks: Live Long, and Prosper

1. There are a lot of emotions in life. Except for Mr. Spock. What emotionally scares you the most?  Not being there for my kids when they need me.  I want to be there for them until the time they get married and have kids.

2. Do you have any present goals that are tough enough that you'd like to forget about them?  One of my goals is to venture into the world of investing.  Well, I've been tempted several times to forget about it, but I'm really willing and have decided to learn all there is to learn about it.
Your Internet service goes down. What would you miss the most?  Blogging! :)

3. Name one thing that you do as a parent that you absolutely know will make your kids happy. If you're not a parent, feel free to substitute "friend" or nomenclature that works for you. (Nomenclature? Can you tell that I stole this question?)  Having time to do anything with them makes my kids absolutely happy.  Kids just want your love and attention all the time, and they appreciate it much when they feel that they're worth your time. :)

4. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being uninhabitable and 10 being cleanliness that meets the standards of OCD, what is you favorite romantic comedy movie?  Of all time?  10 Things I Hate About You!

5. If money was no object, and you had a free month or so, what would you love to do?  Travel around the world with my family.

6. Why did you start your blog? Was it because you were pissed at someone?  I was inspired to start a blog after following some mommy blogs, plus I wanted to meet other people.

7. Kimber and Berleen (Thunks founders & BFFs) are finally going to meet in person. Who are you friends with in the blogosphere that you'd love to meet? Why?  Hmmm...I haven't thought about it yet.

8. When you were in high school, if you can remember back that far, what mistake did you make that you'd like to change?  Letting my other classmates copy from my test and quiz answers.  They got used to not reviewing for exams because they know they could copy from other people like me.  Oh well...

9. Do you believe in forever, as in 'love forever'?  Oh yes! :)

Decors Galore

I'm not really artistic when it comes to decorating, but here's the best that I can do for our decorations at home:

Only 24 more days 'til Christmas! :)

Wednesday Wickedness: Groucho Marx

1. 'A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere."
What is a superstition that many have that you think is crazy?  I can’t think of anything right now.  But I really don’t believe a lot of those superstitious things.  With just the right mindset, I believe nothing can go wrong.

2. "A hospital bed is a parked taxi with the meter running."
What were you in the hospital for the last time that you were admitted?  The last time I was admitted at the hospital was a couple of years ago, something to do with the panic attacks I was experiencing at that time.

3. "Alimony is like buying hay for a dead horse."
What payment do you make that seems ridiculous?  The high interest rate on credit cards.

4. "Humor is reason gone mad."
How would you describe your sense of humor?  I’m not the Jim Carrey type but I do make people laugh.

5. "I have a mind to join a club and beat you over the head with it."
Who was the last person that you wanted to beat with something or other?  My husband (lol!).  Sometimes, it’s just so hard to talk to him – you feel like talking to a wall.

6. "I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception."
Would you ever like to change something about your face?  Nope.  I like it just the way it is. :)

7. "I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury."
I read an article recently that asked if marriage was still relevant. Other than to raise children do you see the point?  As long as the couple has respect and love for each other.

8. "If you've heard this story before, don't stop me, because I'd like to hear it again."
Do you find that you tend to repeat your stories? Oh yes, especially when it’s something that really tickled my funny bones. :)

9. "There's one way to find out if a man is honest - ask him. If he says, "Yes," you know he is a crook."
Do you find most people that are in your life to be honest?  Am not really sure.

10. "Wives are people who feel they don't dance enough."
Have you ever felt that your significant other did not go out with enough?  Yes!
